Joie Perdu had spent her whole life consumed with two things; the missed opportunities of her past and fear of never having the future she felt she deserved. While most people called her Joey, the proper pronunciation of her name was that of the one thing she most lacked in life, joy. In her thirties and tired of feeling alone and unfulfilled, Joie begins to ask herself some tough questions, the most important being, who is she?

Soon she runs into Sam Oziv, her first love, her first sex, her first heartbreak. Memories of how Sam had carelessly come in and out of her life in her younger years, reeling her in with his charm only to cut and run without warning brought about anger. After taking responsibility for his bad behavior, Sam seems like a new man. A well-adjusted, successful gentleman who showers her with help in understanding that what went wrong between them so many years ago was more about his issues than she had ever fathomed. His remorse and kindness begins to confuse her. Is she falling for him yet again, or is he merely a distraction from the answers she so desperately needs to find the peace and joy she longs for?

They decide to take a cruise together to explore their feelings and see if perhaps their time to be together had finally arrived. One thing is for sure, once on the ship, Sam would not be able to cut and run. But neither would Joie.
