A cough in the back
Someone keeps moving their chair
Whispers in the middle to the right
Two girls laughing
A phone lights up
Three
Two
One
We all breathe in
This is it
The music swells
Everyone moves forward
The lights turn and brighten
The curtains run away
Eyes are feasting
Ears are pointed
Everyone is ready
And I write my poem
Old and new poetry.
Depressing, weird, cheesy, the whole lot.
