In a distant future there is only a few thousand humans left... and an unfunctional time machine.
The apocalypse has already happened and the world in which they live is a living hell. Their only hope is to get that time machine back to work and to send people to fix the world. (The prologue is a bit confusing but it will get sorted out later.
