Lucy Heartfilia has lived a hard life ever since her mother died when she was a toddler. Homeschooled, with few allies, even fewer friends and an abusive but distant father, she wonders whether her life will get better.
Then, her father crosses a line, and Lucy is plunged into a world of secrets and oppression, true friends and family, magic and science, and very dangerous people. It seems her life will have to get much worse before it gets any better.
