BEFORE READING: This is a very rough, rough draft of the overall book idea. I wanted to be able to put down the thought and storyline in the best of my ability in the moment. Once completed, I will go back through and edit (probably multiple times) before saying it is "complete". Please stick with me and leave feedback. Chaos. That's the only way to describe the room. The sounds of gunshots still rang in the air, freezing me to the spot I stood. People around me were running but they seemed like they were all moving in slow motion. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ I felt something trying to crawl out of my throat. Vomit maybe? A scream? I coughed and felt the copper metalic taste of blood mix with the saliva of my mouth. I felt my stomach and was welcomed with wet warmth. Raising my shaky hand, I saw my hand covered in red, reminding me of the times I'd paint it just to see how it'd look the color of a rose. But the rosebuds of my body had melted, seeping out of the hole that rested above my belly button. I raised my eyes and met those of his. My vision started to blur as I watched him running towards me. 'Why was he running so slow?' I thought to myself. My legs buckled under me and I fell into a world of darkness.. The ending was always in sight, but I chose to ignore it. Maybe we all did, wanting to enjoy the moment and live rather than think about what the consequences would be of our actions... I guess it's true what they say; there's a price to pay with everything, and I was the one to pay for it.

COMPLETE Let me make this crystal clear, because you don't seem to understand," he said, his voice deceptively calm, but laced with venom. "I paid for you to be my wife. That means you do what I say. You're mine now." He flicked a check toward me, and it fluttered to the ground between us. I couldn't look away from him, though my chest tightened in panic. My hands shook as I fought back tears, refusing to let him see me break. But he wasn't finished. "What did you expect?" he scoffed, eyes narrowing. "This is what gold diggers like you get. Money has a price, and now you're paying yours. Enjoy it, wife." Without another word, he turned and walked away, leaving me standing in the massive, empty living room-speechless, breathless, and drowning in disbelief. I never expected this. © MaryRose 2018.
