In a world on the brink of war, every wolf must do their part for the pack. Graelyn is a good sister to her Alpha brother, but when the young neighboring ruler shows up at her door, she struggles to remember her duty. Darrik, king of the magic wielding Bender clan, asks for a truce, but old feuds are not so easy to put to rest. Grey must leave her pack, and her home, to serve as a diplomat to in a foreign court vastly different from her own.

Without the mental connection of her pack, Grey is feels adrift in a strange world. However, she has no time for self-pity. The humans to the north grow increasingly hostile, and their armies threaten to overwhelm both kingdoms. Grey has more incentive than anybody to calm the fighting, as the cursed amulet she bares will slowly drain her life until peace is reached. Many other wearers have died before her, but Grey is determined to live so she can see her family once again.
