Edward is desperately trying to get his life back on track after his wife left him and took their two daughters with her. He buys a house in a rural area with a private cemetery on the property. The realtor tells him there is an elderly man, Henry Sampson, who lives on the property next to his, that enjoys taking care of the cemetery. Edwards meets Henry one day. Henry tells him that he lives "deeper than dead" and encourages Edward to come back for a visit. Months later, Edward takes the old man up on his offer and explores what "deeper than dead" is and why he was destined to be there.
