The zombie apocalypse was far worse than we thought it would be. The movies were nothing compared to reality. Between the years 2019 and 2030, billions of people were lost to the devastating hacker parasite. It spread like wildfire from continent to continent, driving people insane before turning them into vicious wild animals. Everybody who survived lost almost everyone they knew. Some people were infected almost immediately, while a few were able to ride out the whole thing. But most people lasted for only a little while...just long enough to record their stories in the hope that someday, somebody would come along and know who they were and what they went through. I was one of the people who made it through that horrible decade. And throughout the course of those ten or so years, I kept a journal of my experiences, hoping that if something did happen to me, my memory would live on through my writing. After the hosts started to dwindle in numbers and 'safety' became more than just an abstract concept, I met more and more people who had the same idea I did. They had written pages and pages, same as me. Eventually I realized that other people who hadn't been as lucky as us would've done exactly what we did, leaving behind their stories as the only evidence that they had existed. I began a quest to find them, traveling across the States and collecting the stories of people who were long gone. I had intended it to be a personal tribute to them, but what I found demanded to be shared with the rest of humanity. This diary is a collection of the stories of those lost to the hacker parasite. This is their legacy. Shoutout to @paraenesis for the awesome cover art!
