Refuge

My name is Mackenzie Jenkins and I am a recent 18 year old high school graduate. I am shy, I don't talk very often, and I don't trust people. My father raised me in the countryside since my mother died when I was five years old. Since her death, my father began to drink, and eventually started to abuse me and my older sister. My sister is two years older than me and moved out of the house when she turned 18, taking me with her so I wouldn't be forced to suffer living with our father. She is one of the only people I trust besides my boyfriend, Eric. It took me a long time to open up to him. He was patient with me, though. One reason why I put my trust in him was because his father also beat him. His mother wouldn't do anything about it, and since he has a rebellious side, he started drinking when he was fifteen. He knew I trusted him, but my trust has begun to waver.
