Rural Karnataka, India, the 1950s. Caste and religion intertwine to ensnare generations from birth to death in rules of cans and cannots, shoulds and nevers. Siblings Ashok and Minerva Shastri are as caught up in these norms as any before them, and most after. This purity comes at the cost of forgetting, erasing and tampering with as much of their own history as possible. All of this changes when a young boy appears on their front doorstep, reminding them of a history they'd much rather forget. Inevitably, he leads them to a future that is equally dangerous to their fragile stability.
