Vinnarna av den 74 hungerspelen Katniss Everdeen och Peeta melllarks har fått sett sina barn Rose och Kinna växa upp fridfullt utan hungerspel. Tills året då Rose fyllde 6. Fredsväktare har kommit igång och regimen i huvudstaden är mäktigare än någonsin. Nya arenor har byggts och hungerspelen sätter igång igen. Året Rose fyller 15 blir hon utvald till att delta i hungerspelen. Väl där i huvudstaden lär hon känna karriäristerna och däribland dom Rike som får henne på fall. Den andra pojken från distrikt 12 Liam verkar skum. Riktigt skum.Kommer han vara ett motstånd på arenan? Kommer Rose klara sig ur blodbadet och kärleken?
