By nightfall you decide you have to leave him, to better the kingdom. It kills you, absolutely kills you to go. To watch him cry about it. But you go.

If you still refuse , you will die at the stroke of midnight the next day. If you were unable to go through with it, you survive. If you were to make a promise about something in the past and it's not true, you die the moment you finish the sentence.
