Salvatrice Velasco lives in the quintessential beach town of Santa Carla, California, home of the West Coast's oldest surviving seaside amusement park. It's summertime, 1986, a year before the Emersons make their move from their Phoenix home and find themselves amongst the people (and creatures) living in what is nicknamed the "Murder Capital of the World"
Her eyes are opened to a new world, upon finding out that her boyfriend had become one of the undead, just like in the hundreds of books and comics she's read.
Now she must make her choice: Join the boy she loves in his gang of Lost Boys? or try to get by in a sea full of gutter punks and tourists.
