Identity crisis? What's that? ---- An earthling's soul was born into an incompatible, human body. Their muscles misbehaved, their skin and body felt like a rigid shell, and their weak constitution left little options for any activities outside of paperwork, books and anything on a screen at home. Then the divine beings tried to correct the mistake and removed the mismatched soul from its unfitting body, slinging it to a distant world with a new body to control. The human flesh-prison replaced with the unlimited options of a shapeshifter, the soul has now a magic-filled world to explore. Grow fur for a mountain hike, grow gills and fins for a deep dive. It's time to catch up on decades worth of missed travels and activities. But who wants to deal with the flesh-craving predators called shapeshifters? Another global purge could start, if the freshly transferred soul shows its abilities too much. ---- The rankings are a mystery to me - especially after this story made it to No. 1 under the shapeshifter tag (and others). Welcome to fantasy amateur hours! This is my first time writing that kind of novel. Hopefully there's a bit of improvement along the way. Feel free to tell me what works or not! Occasionally drowning in irl-work, so chapters will be published semi-regularly, whenever I find some time to write. (Usually updated at least once per week.) "The world around her swam with mottled light. How long had she been fighting?" So...in sixth grade we took this computer-skills class. Our final test was to write a short story in Microsoft Word. My story ended up fleshing out into the trilogy I am working on and planning to publish at somepoint in my life, but I realized how incredible my writing skill has improved between just the two or three years. So, I decided to re-write the original sequence of a short story, same plot and characters, just with current skill. Comments and feedback are appreciated, please enjoy!Concluida
Rising of the Weakest Mage
(Please read first two chapters for info, thank you!) For a long time, elemental magic has been widely known, used, and practiced. Elemental magic is based upon the four core elements - Earth, Air, Fire and Water. Elemental magic is most prominent in England, where many mages gather to learn and research elemental magic. However, during the early 1500's, the Fire Outbreaks happened. Several various fire mages suddenly swept through and destroyed the smaller cities of England, killing many in their way and leaving no survivors. Due to this the Council of Magic, the governing figure of elemental magic, issued an act - The Anti-Fire Act. This effectively banned any and all use of fire magic within all of England. The Council of Magic was later changed to the Triumvirate in the 1540's, and from then on are set on killing off every last fire mage. Allen Fleming, a 15 year old air mage, wishes to attend the Magical Knights Academy. The academy is where many young, prominent mages attend to improve their use of magic, and eventually become a magical knight. Magical knights are the respected mages who protect the cities of England and keep its citizens safe. But in order to even attend the academy, Allen must first pass the entrance exam. However, Allen's magic is extremely weak and he relies mostly on his physical fighting ability. Air is considered the strongest element within England, and with his lack of air magic prowess, many mages hate and ignore him. But what many do not know, is that Allen possesses a second element - the fire element! Without knowing who his real parents are, and having to keep his fire magic a secret, Allen has to work hard if he ever wishes to become a magical knight and achieve his goals.
