Everything was blurry; I couldn't move, it was like I was watching a movie. It was night time and it looked like I was on the sidewalk beside a flickering street light, the road was cracked and trash was flying around. My eyes acted as the camera, it slowly turned to the left to face a narrow dark alleyway. There was a big trash bin and trash on the ground. Two guys walked into the alleyway; they walked right through me like I wasn't even there. I couldn't see their faces clearly, but one looked oddly familiar, is that Mark? I thought that has to be him. They kept walking until they were near the back of the alleyway, the person that looked like Mark started talking, but it was muffled so I couldn't understand what he said. The other man looked at him and said something back, then the so-called Mark gave him a look and walked ahead of the other guy. The man smiled, watching Mark look around for something, suddenly everything started slowing down, the man pulled out a gun and said something to Mark. Mark turned around with confusion that turned to being terrified. The man smiled broadly and fired the gun. Mark gasped and dropped to his knees, the man laughed menacingly and walked over and kicked Mark on his back. I then heard a muffled scream, and the man looked behind him shocked and ran off.All Rights Reserved

Instead my attention was focused on who I saw seated in the restaurant. His eyes were on the screen in the corner of the room. I knew that because my gaze used to be directed in that direction while I mopped the floors at night. Without warning, he began to laugh. I couldn't hear anything, it was a soundless laughter. Not because I was in a trance, but because the windows and doors blocked in all the sounds... depriving me of the sound I wanted to hear most. Something about his expression made me smile. He looked... if only there were a word to describe how he looked. One word that could paint this perfect image of him in detail capturing even the motion of the moment. But before I could come up with that word, that perfect moment was broken. I inhaled sharply as his eyes landed on me. His face went blank removing all the evidence that he had been expressing amusement. Like a mirror, my smile faded. "Cold metal was the first thing that I felt against my skin. Then came the sensation of being strapped down by my wrists and ankles. Why was I strapped down? My eyes blinked open slowly, in a daze. I saw men and women in surgical gear running around wildly. The blare of alarm pierced the fog around my mind and I saw emergency lights flashing. What was happening? I saw a woman, her brown eyes wild with fear, undo the straps on my wrists and legs. My head fell to the side and I witnessed one man pounce on the other, then a squirt of blood shoot high into the air as the first man bit into the others neck. I couldn't move without serious concentration, and even then, I could only move a little. I was helpless as I lay on this metal table. I knew that I was going to die. I was an easy target. I closed my eyes, waiting for the inevibility of the man to attack me. Nothing came though, and when I cracked my eyes open, I was alone in the room. What? Just then, I heard a loud bang and I saw a man with a gun burst through the door, an infected woman, the one who had just untied me, leaping at him. They fell into the table I was on, and the entire thing flipped. I was tossed onto the ground, landing hard. My head cracked against the concrete and everything went black, and the last sound I heard were the man's screams."

TEASER: I sit comfortably in my makeshift shelter, planning my next voyage to the surface. Faint footsteps above ground snap me out of my thought. I silently reached to my loaded gun, an SKO Shorty, and carefully pulled back the hammer. I silently crept up the unstable metal stairs, aiming my gun at the door at the top. The heavy metal door creaked. Something was behind it. The door pushes open to reveal a man. A human. He slowly reaches into his pocket and pulls out a crinkled yellow paper. I grab the note, while lowering my gun. I look up only to find the man gone. I unfold the paper. It's hard to make out the words in red ink with the dim lighting of the sewer tunnel. Eventually, I'm able to decipher, "34.0522' N, 118.2437' W". Coordinates. At the bottom of the note, scribbled out in black in, there's one phrase. "Code: 213" *Please note this story includes graphic depictions of blood and violence. This story may not be suitable for all audiences.
