Mira Barone has what could be considered as 'a hard knock life'. She has a father who abuses her and her mother for complete and utter stupid reasons.

She runs away to her aunt's house in California to go to her soccer camp there. Mira wants a new start for her and her mother.

Mira meets Caroline, who thinks she could be a friend to her. But Mira finds something eerie about Caroline. Does Caroline really want to be friends with her or does she want to keep her away from the prize? Mira meets people who will help take her far, however, she also meets people that want to hold her back from her dream.
