Alice 'AJ' Johnson's dad was his best friend. They did everything together, and his dad's death has left AJ drifting. At school AJ spends his break time hiding in the old woods behind the playground. It is the only place he doesn't feel alone. However, his moms have other plans. They're moving the family to Australia at the end of the school year.
AJ can't leave the memories of his dad behind so he decides to run away to his grandparents' house. The fastest route to the bus stop is through the woods.
When early morning turns to night, AJ knows something is very wrong. Lost in the Dead Woods, a twisted Wonderland where the world of the dead overlays the world of the living, AJ must navigate his way through to find his way home. If he remains he'll be lost forever. Or eaten, for the Dead Ones are hungry.
