"You three can move in with the Metzingers." Those are the 8 words that changed the life of a fifteen-year-old sophomore who had been living a fairly ordinary one up until a week ago. High school student Pemalope Dissanayake and her two younger sisters move in with old family friends on the other side of the country after her parents don't make it out of an unfortunate car accident. Mal must learn to adjust to her new life in Seattle, WA, where no one knows the truth about her and she doesn't have any friends... Except for Michael Metzinger, the oldest kid in the family she moves in with. In Mal's new, more complicated life, she has to mourn her parents' death, put up with 5 siblings, make new friends, and try not to fall for Michael while she's at it.
