The kids do not have knowledge of eachother and Tom was put into an orphanage for having mutated/unnatural eyes. Tord was found in a Forest Fire, Edd was found in the woods and Matt was found passed out after a meteorite crashed very close to his home

EDD: born with. A tree gave birth to him. (NATURE)
TORD:given because he was burnt. The burn left him with a mark which I will design (eventually) (FIRE)
Tom: Born with (his mother was a siren meanwhile his father was a human (and abusive but we'll get to that later (LIQUIDS. HE CAN FREEZE THINGS ACCIDENTALLY WHEN UPSET)
Matt: given after he swallowed stardust and it somehow got into his veins? I'm working on it don't worry. (Galaxy)
