This tale is set in the mountains of North Carolina in the middle to late 1940's. The hardships, the lives, loves, and mystery that surround several families in The Holler and on Hager Mountain. What is the blue haze in the sky that frightens Junior and Cliff? What, and/or who is causing the hexes, spells and strange happenings, and why? Does it want the baby? Why? Can they stop it? My story is written in the way I was brought up to speak, the mountain/country slang, however, I'm sure there are tons of grammatical error as well as spelling, but that's how I was brought up because it was all "correct" to us. In 1600s Virginia, a small colonial village sprang up unceremoniously on the sacred burial grounds of the Native American people it was taken from, the Nottoway. At least, she hadn't been until a certain, special, sixteen-year-old Artemis Alexander finds her lurking around. Artemis and his big family just moved into the house on the grounds where Dawn used to live. Dawn needs to find out why this Artemis boy can see her. It's never happened in the three hundred years she'd been (not quite) dead. Artemis is your regular kid of science, the one you barely see in the background, and he is far from superstitious. Artemis doesn't believe in anything science does not explain. So how do you think he feels when he begins to see people that glow but aren't quite there? Or how about one that's not quite dead?
