At age 16 Malakai's mother died tragically in a fire. Leaving Malakai and Everest with no parents, for their father died a year after his sister was born. Malakai is left to take care of Everest on his own, they move from their childhood neighbourhood to a small bungalow. A year later Everest goes missing on her way home from school on her bike, leaving Malakai alone and in distress with no help to find his sister, until he meets, Rain.
