Em um último golpe desesperado, a dupla parte em exploração por um véu que liga o mundo humano a um outro inexplorado repleto de criaturas mágicas, na intenção de enfim derrotar o milenar assassino imortal.

In JOS I set the rogue and con-artist Harric against a foil of warriors in a land threatened by magic and civil war. Whenever possible I turn familiar tropes on their heads: instead of a handsome young Lancelot, I cast a broken-down ex-champion addicted to pain-killing herbs; instead of a dashing Squire Brian, the old knight reluctantly takes an ambitious young woman as squire. Similarly, I re-imagine the standard medieval milieu by infusing aspects of two of my favorite historical periods, Elizabethan England, and The American Frontier. Both eras boast a kind of nationalistic arrogance that borders on hubris, and a magnificent spirit of resourcefulness and re-invention that is fun to play with. I place one leg on the side of the chair he's seated on and pull out a pistol from my waistband. I look into his hazelnut eyes for his reaction. scared, confused, just the reaction I was dying for. "Holy shit that's a gun" he exclaims "I told you earlier not to be fooled. I'm evil, wicked, I'm the devil, I rob banks, innocent people, I derive joy from people's pain and fear, I get wealth by doing dare devil jobs-" I cut myself in, not wanting to leak too much info.
