When Tegan loses her best friend to a car accident in the middle of winter, her life completely halts. How can she even consider moving on, when Elva has been with her at every moment since second grade? And with Hunter, Elva's brother, still in the hospital, barely waking from a coma and facing months of grueling physical therapy, Tegan is stuck in the middle. Focus on her own grief, or dedicate herself to keeping Hunter from falling apart?
After six months, when summer comes around, Tegan is finally ready to face reality. In an attempt to give them both closure, Tegan plans a two week road trip to visit all of Elva's bucket list locations and spread her ashes everywhere. Desperately in search of something new, Matt turns to a martial arts school that his best friend had recommended. Set in the beautiful beach town of Oceanside this first person narrative focuses on key experiences that Matt goes through during his first year of training. The novel takes the reader on a journey following him as he struggles with the demands of karate training, as he deals with new relationships surrounding him, and most importantly as he learns to live with the memories of the accident that while becoming more clear, still haunt and hold him back. The variety of people he meets as part of his training, some more eccentric than others, push him to try and answer the call; including the "beautiful" brown belt Cammie, who helps him try and fully face the memories of the accident. The idea is to showcase the world of hard core martial arts and integrate it into the challenges of overcoming serious trauma. It highlights how the power of being a part of a community in the fascinating world of martial arts can be surprising, challenging, yet transformative. With the advent of a series like "Cobra Kai" I believe there is interest in coming of age narratives that are set within the sometimes bizarre and mysterious world of martial arts. I personally love John Green's work and hopefully there is at least a taste of what he offers in terms of intensity and depth of character. The following "tags" I think would fit well in trying to describe the narrative : coming of age, drama, tragedy, karate, kata, fighting, romance, and recovery.Complete

an almost decade old story. * "one tragedy changed their lives." a story with dialogues and minimal description, in which a boy ends up in the hospital after a car accident and his friend slowly collapsing under the weight of his tortured mind. but what actually happened that one fateful night and what other secrets will be unraveled? * two main male pov's, recognizable through italics and normal text. a story written unlike any other. i hope you'll find comfort in it just as much as i have. be aware that this is a realistic story. * slow-burn start, but it picks up. don't let the number of chapters fool you; the average reading time for each is less than a minute . i came up with the story of the two friends when i was still quite young and i'm by no means a writer, so it deeply apologize if it sucks ass. feel free to vote and comment or point out any spelling mistakes or confusing paragraphs. it needs some editing and possibly some small changes or added chapters for clarity and better character development, but as for now, this first completed story will do. original story: around 2014. first upload: 2020. re-upload: 2023.Complete

The idea of this story has hit me square to the face when I watched one of my favorite novellas on television. Leslie Garcia has been a sweet little 9 year old girl and then her world is crushed when she finds out she suddenly has cancer. Everyone is worried and they are doing the best she can but just doesn't want it. Finally, a chance to see her dad again. She hasn't really been scared of death though sometimes it frightens her with curiosity about after life. Alex, her best friend, have known each other for a long time and he feels very protective over her like taking care of her, checking in on times, and keeping her away from the idiots at school who keep calling her names. Ashley, Leslie's older sister, has been crushed by the news and does not know what to do anymore. She is the one left taking care of Leslie but all she can do is cry and try not to let her think of death or any of that sort.Complete
