Ember and her friends get  a tour of NIMBC, a lab that conducts human experiments. After returning for Ember's necklace that night, They get exposed to a chemical that the Institute is testing. After a narrow escape, the teens think they're in the clear. Until strange things start happening. Ember realizes she and her friends have acquired super human abilities. Through out the story, Ember, Stella, Zane, Zeke, Luke and their new friends must learn to control their new abilities and protect themselves--and the people they love--from everything NIMCB has to throw at them. Will the team stick together? Or  will the traitor in their midst ruin everything...?
