Having grown up in San Francisco, Cienne Cruz and her twin sister Camille have always wondered what it'd be like to visit the Philippines. When they finally do, it isn't under circumstances that they were hoping for. Their grandmother's illness has their Mom's side of the family flocking back to Baler. In that quiet chill-as-can-be surfing capital, Cienne meets Vic, one of the best surf instructors around. Vic is boyish, brave, broken... and a total bully. Vic's never left the island for long: Baler-born-and-bred and for a while, this works for Cienne since Vic is a welcome guide. But after they grow close - Vic always somehow managing to give Cienne's heart the hiccups - the passing of summer and Vic's stubbornness to stay on the island becomes a problem. Afterwards, they meet in the middle every now and then: either Cienne going back to her roots or Vic venturing out of her comfort zone. Through time, across the sea, holding on to sun-soaked memories through silly photos and ukulele serenades, Cienne and Vic will come to know what they truly mean to one another.
