One year after the end of the Fourth Great Shinobi War, Naruto and his friends are still enjoying their victory. Alliances have been strengthened, friendships have been reconciled, and the shinobi world has entered a state of peace that was previously unheard of. They have everything they've ever wanted, except for one major detail: Minxie Takeda is dead.
It's a reality that devastates them, but one that they've learned to accept...only reality, as they soon realize, has never been easy to distinguish, especially not where the Takeda clan was concerned. And Minxie's sacrifice, though noble, did not come without consequences, and soon the peace they worked so hard to establish begins to hang in the balance. But with their friendship more solid than ever and their strength greater than it's ever been, they believe they can handle anything.
But they are wrong. They are no longer in the world they once knew. They are in a world where the dead come out to play, where the living can't be trusted, and where the line between wrong and right is practically non-existent. Battle lines are drawn, loyalties are tested, and time -the one thing they need the most- is running out.
And if the world spiraling back into chaos isn't bad enough, there's another problem: the Takeda clan. Powerful, fearsome, and shrouded in darkness, Minxie and Ryuu's family history is more elusive and difficult to understand than ever, a shadow cast upon the Leaf Village with secrets that are better off left unknown.
Though the past still looms over them, Naruto, Ryuu, and the rest of their friends are determined to look to the future. But how can they look to the future when the past won't leave them alone? After all, memories can't hurt you.
But they sure can haunt you.
