Tala Maloan just wants to be a normal girl and live a normal life. She wants to go to school, make friends, and come home to see her mother every day. That's not possible, though. Her mother is a big-wig doctor at the Seattle hospital in Washington. She rarely sees her anymore. To make matters worse, Tala isn't allowed outside. Her mother shields her from the outside, keeping her hidden from a world she hardly knows, and Tala has no idea why. Eventually, one day, she takes a leap of courage and sneaks out to experience what she's missing, and finds something she never thought she would see again. As things get stranger and stranger, Tala starts to realize that having a normal life may have never been possible for her.
