The End Of The Damn World

"Authorities are asking citizens to please remain calm and stay indoors until further notice." The anchor could barely get the last word out when the power went out. All down the block, one by one, the lights gave out, plunging our little town into darkness. Darkness and silence. No one spoke, no one even breathed. Then sirens sounded. The howling noise whistled through the air, shaking the foundation of the house. It was almost as if it was signaling the end of the world.

Which, in a way, I guess it was.
