Paige McKinley has been transferred to different orphanages all her life for believing in crazy theories that monsters and demons are real. All her questions are answered when one night she meets an angel named Castiel. He comes every night with a new story about two brothers, Sam and Dean Winchester. Castiel soon reveals that she is a product of a drunk one-night stand and is in fact Deans Daughter. He also tells her that the brothers have turned cold and reckless after all those years fighting monsters and saving the world. So Cas sends her back in time to help the brothers stay together, but she cannot tell them her true identity. Along the way she becomes attached to both of them since they are family. And family is what matters. So she finds it hard to make decisions that could affect the present and future.

His father was an old drunk constantly in hospitals and jails from being over intoxicated. He had his old uncle Bobby there as a father figure but he lived three states away, making him hard to see often. Now both brothers were quite lonely despite the girlfriends they both had. Dean had Lisa, a women who has short term memory loss. Sam has Jess who was getting sick with fevers from left and right. Both Winchester boys were sick of all of this work. Dean with having to deal with taking Lisa out on first dates almost every week to try and spark her memory. Then Sam constantly in the hospital because Jess was burning up.
