In the fictional world of Maszery, the story of a young girl unfolds. Living in the kingdom of Astore, Rue has been the protector of young mistress Evenly Laveya since she was 10 years old. She lives day to day risking her life to protect her mistress from harms way. Life for the people in Astore turns grave when the Kingdom goes into war with the Kingdom of Clanton. Rue's life goes frenzy after meeting Alak, a mysterious man, and Theo the theif, who steals the hearts of many, including young mistress Evenly Leveya. As she tries to protect her mistress, she meets more and more people and eventually comes to realize more and more things about herself.

He didn't want to be watched over, he didn't want to be guarded, he just wanted to be left alone for once in his life. With his luck, that was impossible. He never wanted the crown. He was intelligent enough to rule and he acknowledged that but he always wished he could just be free of his binding curse.
