Brennan glanced up at the sky. It was getting brighter, seeming to glow from somewhere above. "I'm afraid we're out of time. We're going." He reached out to grab my wrist.
"Going where?" I quickly moved my arm out of his reach. "Where are you taking me?"
Brennan stood there looking at me as he said impassively, "to Hell."
Not everyone gets the chance to work for Satan. Rowan guesses she's lucky.
After losing her little sister, Aubrey, Rowan blames herself and the strange powers she seems to have, and takes her life, unable to handle the grief. But she didn't exactly move on to the peace she expected.
Rowan is offered a deal. Work for the Devil in exchange for a single wish, granting her whatever she desires. Thinking only of Aubrey, she accepts, and is teamed up with Brennan, a demon with an intimidating glare and a bad mood, to go on an important job she doesn't know much about.
As Rowan goes, she learns more about the world she's immersed in and about the magic she possesses. Brennan is a mystery in and of himself, and it's clear he has just as much reason to work for Satan as she does.
When the two set out on their journey, they start to learn more than they thought they would. About their world, about each other, and about what the Devil is really up to...
