Living in Boston in the early 1930s, Octavius Doyle is a failed historian and a rather irritable librarian. Upon the death of his estranged uncle Octavius inherits the ancestral home of his mother's family, the Quinns. He soon learns of his uncle's most peculiar occupation which the townsfolk expect Octavius to assume. All his life he had studied days of yore, but for the first time the past might be too close for his comfort.
