La nit cau a la Vall del Drac, imponent com un exèrcit de turcs avançant al ritme de tambors, com el rei Jaume entrant a València, com el Cèsar caminant per les Gàlies, com Alexandre passejant entre els místics jardins flotants. Poruc, el Marquès Tavarnós observa des de la torre del deteriorat Castell Bru el firmament. Espera la cruel aparició del diable que cada dia assetja el seu poble i la seva gent.
