Thistle whirled around, panting heavily. She took in her surroundings. This is it. She thought. She looked back at Crimson, who looked like he just didn't have a care in the world. I need to go. She looked back at her mother, who was rubbing her snout. NOW! Thistle leaped into the air, just as Queen Acrylic lunged for her. One of her mother's talons caught on her tail, causing her to miss a wingbeat. A tremor of fear shook through Thistle. She blew a small amount of fog on her mother's back. She instantly let go, rolling in the sand. Thistle took off.

Eight has lived semi-contentedly for years. All she has ever wanted is to find a way she can obtain happiness while fulfilling her duties as a Worker of the AntWing Colony. So far, that plan has been going swimmingly. Which is to say horrible, because as a dragon who's never even seen the sun (let alone a body of water), Eight can't swim. When her section of Workers reaches maturity they are tasked with a new job: one Eight does not agree with. They have to sire a new generation of Workers for the Colony. She and her best friend devise a plan to escape, but that also backfires - this time, more literally than figuratively... --- Even though this story is rated Mature, it is only for the occasional fight scenes which include enough blood and gore to showcase the reality of fighting. There is also implied+referenced non-con due to the structure of one of the tribes' military society. Nothing happens on-screen. Also dragon racism (it's promoted by the military as propaganda to make their soldiers think of their enemies as less than). I bonk character responsible very thoroughly in the sequel! Wings of Fire: The Secret of Silverstripe
NOTE: The following is a fanfiction inspired by Tui T Sutherland's "Wings of Fire" saga. "Wings of Fire" does not belong to me, and most of the material included in this story is fanon, not canon, though there will be several canon characters making appearances throughout the story. You've heard the story about how the NightWings manipulated the War of SandWing Succession, sending assassins and spies to watch over and control the situation for their own benefit. This is the story of one such spy, who was posted in the Kingdom of the Sea to observe the SeaWing army and Blister's forces as they sought victory in the world war. Silverstripe was raised by the Talons of Peace with one purpose in mind: to spy for the Talons in the War of SandWing Succession. Now that she's finally ready to begin her career, she's finding that spying on the SeaWings is even smoother than she anticipated. However, there are also complications that she'd never thought of... complications that could jeopardize her mission and even cost her her life.
