Turning away from her heated glare, I walk towards the front door. The only sound in the room was my heavy breathing and the sound of police sirens in the far distance.
I reached for the handle and twisted it, but before I could do anything else, her voice broke the silence.
"Where do you think you're going?" her emotionless words rang through my ears. "Get back here and explain yourself."
My whole body tensed up, I made no move to exit the apartment. I stood at the door just looking at the floor.
Just a few more steps and I'll be out of her life for good. I thought to myself quietly.
The sound of her voice gave me an eery feeling. The feeling you get when your walking into a place you've never been before and know nothing about.
Slowly, I turned my head and met her glare with one of my own, only mine was more deadly. At the sight of my expression, her faćed faltered just the slightest before returning to the same emotionless it was when I arrived.
With my hand on the door, I countered back, "I stopped explaining myself once I realized that people only understand from their level of perception."
And with my words still ringing throughout the room, I walked out the door and never looked back. The only sound being heard from the hallway was the sound of her yelling my name and her pleas for forgiveness.
