The island was covered by a special Nano cover which was supposed to last 300 years and it's a shield against radiation, bioweapons and chemical attacks. The island has all facilities with high technology. The communication system within the island was advanced and had no connection with outside to prevent AI attacks. It was protected in every possible way which is why humanity still lasts. It is 2140 now. Our little island is the only place humanity can survive on the earth but sadly it's a small island. The population is rising. So now we have a lot more problems in surviving than radiation. We are in a sinking Titanic without boats and it's stuck in a radioactive world. Space is the only place we have left to go. We are working on that plan, a Space station. But still, this island is our plan A. There are two parts of the island. Inside and outside. Simply heaven and hell on the same island. If you can get inside you are more than lucky. If you get to live outside, you better pray for death.
