"You can't fall in love with me." His words confused me, and my brows creased.

"Why-"

"Just don't," he interrupted. "You have to promise." Though I knew I was already falling, I knew I had no choice but to promise, even though I knew, deep down, I was already on the road to breaking it.

"I promise."

Ellie sees ghosts. She has ever since she was eleven, when the apocalypse started and she lost her mother and her little brother, Jamie. In some ways, the gift helped her get where she is today, but in other ways, it caused problems. Between her obsession with trying to find her little brother, who may or may not still be alive, and her paranormal abilities, developing any kind of relationship or friendship with anyone is hard.
Enter Carl Grimes, so kind and understanding, and so very beautiful. He's extremely flirty, but also very mysterious, as he is sending mixed signals. He seems to be afraid to fall in love, but Ellie is determined to break his walls down.
Together, they are both determined to find Jamie, and nothing will stand in their way. Except, maybe, keeping secrets? Will Carl find out the truth about Ellie? Will he be angry she kept it from her? Or will he understand, unlike all the others.

This is a Walking Dead AU, which stands for Alternate Universe, meaning stuff such as setting, timeline, and characters might be different even if it doesn't exactly make sense or fit the TV show.
