The Obelisk has been an enigma that baffles the various countries around the world. The empire of Khaise see's it as a potential source of power, eagerly trying to take possession of it from the spiritual country of Ardant. With the mercantile Srosta and the idealist Mherillan seeking to meddle in this war over the land's greatest mystery, the neutral country of Nayre struggle to keep themselves uninvolved when various representatives of the other superpowers  seek out their contribution to their cause. 

Meanwhile, a strange person arrives in the snowy crag where the Obelisk resides. Past the Ardanti guardsmen to find out the secrets within the strange, alien runes that none have understood before. Woe to the world, as it boils over in conflict and change.
