Once upon a time, a crazy scientist started a quest to find the ultimate cure. The cure for death.
He aimed for immortality. He got it, but with a twist.
Those who took his cure effectively became immortal. Nothing could hurt them. No virus, no weapon, no nothing. They became indisputably immortal... But at what price?

Slowly those who took the "cure" started to change.
First, their bodies rejected food.
Then, they started to lose their sanity. They hallucinated terrifying nightmares.
Until lastly, they lost themselves. They began craving meat, human meat.

If they didn't consume it, their bodies would begin to decay, and ultimately they would crumble into a pile of rotten meat and bones.
●○●

I was 19 when the so called "zombie apocalypse" began.
I was alone, studying in Silicon Valley, when I first received the chilling messages of my family.

"Amor, I love you, eres mi hija adorada"
"Take care hoe, don't die too soon"

I had lost all hope until my older brothers message came
"Hey kid, chill. I'm taking them to the south, to the house in Tierra del Fuego. I doubt those rotting hotdogs know how to swim, and if they do I believe they will freeze. Girl, I have faith in you. See you there"

And that, ladies and gentlemen, is what made me begin my very own quest to get home.

They said that "Changing is part of LIFE.", at least that's what the CSD (Change and Save Department) used to say. They thought they created a "cure". A cure to save many people's lives from sickness, cancer, and all. Unfortunately... They were wrong. It was fine at first... However, their first test subject? It was for no good. Instead of a cure, they made a "virus". The virus is incurable for now. Many people protested against the CSD and the government. It changed.. but it was never saved... They said that once they bit you, in an hour the virus will spread throughout your body and kill you, then you'll be alive but not like you used to be. There are many survivors, but there are also many who have been turned into monsters. They call these monsters, "zombies". The CSD promised that they'll find a cure, but much-lost hope, lost hope for being alive, lost hope for survival. A 17 yrs. the old girl was in between that. Everything might sound and look horrible but she never lost hope for survival. "I'm running out of food.." she kept on talking to herself since there was no one but her. She saw a grocery store nearby so she checked it out if there were food, and fortunately, there was. She stuffed the food in her bag until she heard something. "Is someone there?" She asked, she hoped it wasn't what she thought about but there it was. The zombie's legs were twisted so it will have a hard time catching her. However, she never encountered that close. She stuffed the last food in her bag and ran. She ran to the girl's restroom. When she opened the door there were zombies! It almost caught her but fortunately, nothing happened to her. She ran back but there were more! "Please don't say this is how I'm going to die!" She said to herself. Is she going to die? Who will she meet? Will they survive this cruel world?? This is a second view point from my original story - A Different Virus - Heartfire. I highly advise reading the original book first. Intro: Laura was a happy child without a care in the world. She loved her parents and life was perfect. Nothing seemed like it could go wrong. People started talking about a bad flu that was spreading and sending some into a coma. Her parents grew worried and stocked the house in case of a pandemic. Months later another virus appeared. Her family was shocked when the news people started reporting that zombies were actually real and not just part of a horror movie. They were appearing in every country. Her parents reassured her that none of the zombie sightings had been anywhere close to them. Her life is turned upside down when her father ends up in hospital with the bad flu and mother exiles her upstairs for her safety. She was never allowed downstairs again. Weeks pass and the streets become deserted with the exception of the red eyed zombies that wandered around. One night she notices a swiftly moving figure with glowing blue eyes in the street below. Should she call out or remain silent? Is this fleeting shadow something that can help her or could this mysterious figure be even more dangerous than the zombies themselves? ---------------------- Ranked #1 Apr 10, 2018 (A huge thank you to all who read and voted!) This story is copyright and built from my own imagination. This book was a special request from someone who helped me a lot. This viewpoint has less action than the original. It's been five years since the plague struck. Leah knows there are other survivors, but she's avoiding them. She is doing just fine on her own. Surviving after everyone she knew died has made her physically strong and honed her intelligence, but she is emotionally devastated. There is nothing to fear if you don't make yourself emotionally vulnerable. James has spent the last five years helping to build up a colony of survivors. He believes in the small town they have populated and its mission to save humanity from extinction. He and his small team of men find scattered people and bring them in. Over the last two centuries, women have fought for and won more and more rights, gaining equality with men. Society, law, and technology bolsters and enforces these rights, but now they are gone. Women's equality with men is over. There are just too few of them. They aren't lesser but greater, more important, more valuable than men. Men are expendable. Men can stay outside alone if they like, but all women must be brought inside the safety of the Colony and properly taken care of. James has been searching the area Leah lives in. Her time of solitude is up. Leah sparks something in James he's never felt before. He's not letting this one get away, certainly not twice. REVISED EDITION COMING OUT MONTHLY/COMPLETED In a world overrun by zombies, A single bite heralds doom - except for Kaindra, who defies death itself, being undead already. ******** As humanity struggles to adapt to the new reality of zombies-infested streets and lurking supernatural creatures from ancient myths and legends, survival becomes an ever-evolving challenge. Survival is a constant battle not only against the undead but also against supernatural creatures and their zealous followers. The relentless onslaught of zombies and the mysterious reemergence of mythical beings push society to its limits. Civilization's last bastions fall one by one, teetering on the brink of collapse. As these ancient myths awaken, they reveal intentions that are far from clear- some may hold the key to salvation, while others could herald further doom. The question remains: Can humanity unravel the mysteries of these legendary beings in time to save themselves, or will they fall prey to the very legends they once dismissed? ___ Excerpt: Taking a deep breath, I lean closer to the mirror, my skin prickling. I thought it was a trick of the light, but as I stare at my reflection, my fragile lies crumble away. The reflection staring back at me feels unrecognizable. My once deep, dark brown eyes now glimmer with an otherworldly light, like twin moons suspended in a sea of silver. The faint glow within them swirls softly, catching the dim flicker of flame I summoned, like ripples across a moonlit lake. Their alien intensity sends a chill down my spine. The orbs seemed to hold a universe within, depths of endless mysteries and ancient wisdom beyond my grasp. ___ Warning: Mentions of suicide and self-harm Beautiful cover made by @scmimi. It had been six years since the first case of Naegleria Fowleri was reported in a hospital in Bishop Parish, Louisiana. The second case was reported in Arkansas one month later. By the end of that year, the sickness had completely consumed the entirety of the United States, Mexico, and South America, and had swept over half of Canada. It had been five years since the sickness had mutated and the first corpse had risen. And in the five years since...life on earth had been changed forever. Five years wasn't an incredibly long stretch of time, but it was long enough for nearly an entire hemisphere to be thrown into utter chaos and then complete collapse. Five years was long enough for millions of people to be lost and anything resembling normalcy to be blown on the wind. There was no hope of normal, of safe or secure, when the world had fallen apart and the dead walked the earth... It had been one month since she had been tested for the gene, one month since she had left her family and had been taken to The Sanctuary where the other carriers were kept. She had been attended to by a physician, fed so well it seemed almost shameful, and watched closely for signs that she was nearing her most fertile days. It had been three weeks since she had been permanently marked as a carrier, permanently set apart from the rest of the world. It had been a few hours since she'd been told she was going to meet the young man she was expected to mate with, a few hours since she had been taken to the house where she would live out her life, which would probably be spent birthing children, who would grow up to birth children, who would grow up to birth children...
