Cosette is a fictional character in the novel Les Misérables by Victor Hugo. Her birth name, Euphrasie, is only mentioned briefly. As the orphaned child of an unmarried mother deserted by her father, Hugo never gives her a surname. In the course of the novel, she is mistakenly identified as Ursule, Lark, or Mademoiselle Lanoire.

She is the daughter of Fantine, who leaves her to be looked after by the Thénardiers, who exploit and victimise her. Rescued by Jean Valjean, who raises Cosette as if she were his own, she grows up in a convent school. She falls in love with Marius Pontmercy, a young lawyer. Valjean's struggle to protect her while disguising his past drives much of the plot until he recognizes "that this child had a right to know life before renouncing it"-and must yield to her romantic attachment to Marius.

This story will not be accurate to the real story for various reasons. To avoid spoilers, I will give two. Firstly, Eponine and Cosette are in a relationship and Cosette does not love Marius, and neither does Eponine. Secondly, the beginning of the story takes place about a year before it takes place in the musical and movie version. Marius and Cosette meet in the summer of 1831 and that is also when Cosette and Eponine fall in love. 3. After the first two chapters, the picture will not be of the character narrating the story but of the other character. For example, Chapter 3 will be from Eponine's perspective but will have a picture of Cosette. Same goes with all the chapters after Chapter 2.

Unable to cope with her father's passing on her own, Cosette decides to drown her sorrows in the bittersweet sensation of alcohol. One fateful night, as the pairs of eyes belonging to Marius and Cosette fell upon one another, would their hearts continue to be "full of love"? I did not create the characters, nor the settings used within this plot line. That was Victor Hugo. I did not write the lyrics integrated into this story. That was Alain Boublil and Herbert Kretzmer.
