This story takes place in a futuristic world where androids that have human personality and emotions live in common household. They can act as a grandchild you never could have, the parent you never met or your partner in life and many more options. Sounds great right? There is a huge drawback. After 81,920 hours (9 years and 4 months) the Giftias start to personalities start to disintegrate and become husks of their former selves with violent tendencies due to failed attempts at overwriting old data. That's where the Terminal Service comes in. A large company that has many small groups (terminals) within it that take care of the Giftias before they deteriorate. The process is known as retrieval. A non-violent process where the Giftias entire os is completly erased. Recievers work at the terminals in partnerships as spotter and marksman. One human, one Giftia. The spotter is tasked with watching their partner and making sure nothing goes astray in the retrieval and the Marksman is the one tasked with actually retrieving the Giftia.
