(If you haven't read the first book in the series, Silver, you should probably do that so that you're not confused.) Christmas is coming, and that means everyone is reuniting for the season. It's been about a month since Cynthia's mother's mysterious death, and she's been living with her aunt (and her gender fluid cousin, Senakah). Mitsuri has begun to attend seventh grade, and is immediately cornered by Allison, a chocolate-loving girl who also has the ability to converse with dead souls of any kind. Evan is struggling to keep up with everything and doesn't trust the new faces, and how much they seem to know about what happened last month. All five are masking two nagging questions with feigned excitement for the season. Those being how did Cynthia's mother really die, and is everyone else in danger? Also, why is Senakah suspicious of Allison, especially when she complains of constant cold and ice forming on surfaces in her house?

Sheila, was falling, she didn't know why, or how, but when she finally hit the ground, she didn't know who she was , where she was from, or why she was in this place. But there were people there, they told her who she was, and how she got here. But she was still confused. Then she met Kendra, she seemed to know all about this place, apparently this is the edge, and about every two months or so, a new boy or girl is delivered into the edge. But Sheila feels that something is wrong, that the edge isn't as safe as people tell her. She starts having nightmares, her close friends start turning against her, and she just wants to be safe again, she wants to get out of the edge. Will Sheila make it out of the edge? And more importantly, will she make it out alive? Read to find out! Warning, this book contains some violence that may be disturbing for some people.
