A first impression is never the best way to judge a person; as an idiom goes, "never judge a book by its cover. It is a metaphorical phrase which means simply, to not prejudge the worth or value of something by its outward appearance alone.

Because of these false perceptions from under the first minute, society has put people into - sometimes derogatory - categories before the individual even knows it.
