Emmeline didn't begin her life as a glader in the box. She came from the depths of the Maze, from one prison to another, and realised all she needed to find was someone to hope for.
Newt didn't really feel alive as a Glader, until a girl came from the deep in the maze and made him see that all he had needed to find was somebody. Somebody to die for
And then they found each other.
