"The Empress Fantastique" tells the story of Amelia and Gus De Leon, sister and brother, driven by revenge after their father, The Emperor-King, tries to kill them. Both Amelia and Gus have to learn to navigate a treacherous new world where their father is still wants them dead. Making things trickier are the fact that Amelia was actually killed by her father and then resurrected by Gus with only two-thirds of her soul and no body.

Helping Amelia and Gus out are the Prisoners of the Arcana. In our world the Prisoners live as illustrations on the deck of Tarot cards. But in reality the Prisoners are dual-souled creatures that have been trapped by the Emperor-King for trying to overthrow his repressive dictatorship. The Prisoners believe that Amelia and Gus may hold the key to finally breaking them out of their jail cells.

Amelia is only interested in one thing after returning from the dead: finding a way to resurrect her sister, murdered by The Emperor-King. Amelia discovers that dusk magic allows her to communicate with one of the Prisoners of the Arcana, the Hermit. They strike a deal: he agrees to help her get her sister back, if she will help him escape prison.

The Hermit has let her know that the king of the dead will trade a sacred soul for her sister’s soul. Only someone is sucking up all the souls around town. The clock is ticking. If Amelia can’t find a soul to trade, her sister will be resurrected into a new body, with no recollection of her old life. So Amelia is in a desperate race to catch a soul before her sister is lost forever.All Rights Reserved

What neither Amelia nor Ezra knew, was that that name would connect them in a way neither would've ever imagined. She finds someone so broken under that cold exterior that she can't help but want to help him. They get thrown into a world of witches, wizards and magic and evil. They set off on a journey to become some of the most powerful witch and wizard to ever live, in order to defeat a great evil. The Dead Queen takes Amelia's sisters and leaves the magically-weak engineer to die, all as a sick form of sport. Will Amelia survive long enough to overcome this greatest of all threats and rescue her sisters, or will they become fuel to feed the waning magic of a woman that should have been dead centuries before?
