Hunted down, the only way to escape was up Mount Ebott. Y/N and Frisk, two extremely close friends, needed to continue running, they didn't want to go back. Not back there. The hunters were too close by now, but the two found themselves ready to jump down a large hole. They'd rather die than have to go back. So they deviate from the script, attempt to fulfill the purpose that brought them to the mountain in the first place in a last attempt to break free from the resets. It doesn't work. (But suicide is a pretty memorable thing, and emotions may just be a little bit stronger than memories. Especially to the person who finds their dead body.)
