Marinette's life is hard. Sweeping around in her old cottage all day, scrounging around to find a few pennies to buy a piece of bread for dinner. The only thing that enlightens it is her lover, Nathaniel. Everything changes when she gets chosen for the Selection. The Selection is a group of 10 girls who compete for the heart of the royal heir, Prince Adrien. Being a part of the Selection would mean betraying her love for Nathaniel. But people change, and soon her heart will lead her to a different pathway. One that will hold a light for all hearts.

Her parents died in a vampire stacking in her old home, Pennsylvania. She made it out alive. Adrien, he's half vampire but more human then anything. His mother was human, father vampire. She died giving birth to him. Nathanael, a full blooded vampire. He was, of course, one of the richest ones, less then the royal family, more then his father. When Marinette goes to school for the first time, she's more then thrilled when she gets to go but depressed with her bloodline being so pure, that everyone is afraid or is not allowed to speak with her.
