This is a sequel to Promise. I highly suggest you read that book first.

After finally grasping her freedom from the Refuge, Melody Higgins has been trying for a normal life, or at least as normal as being Manhattan's only resident female newsie can get. But in a massive turn of events, her abusive father is bailed from jail. With her father on the loose, will she stay free?

Their lives were still pretty crappy and hopeless, but hey, they were still alive and that was what mattered. Then, a new kid shows up at the gates of The World and sends their lives into chaos once more.
