Many deaths have been reported in a near by town by the woods, and yet very few have even heard of the cases. A specific group of friends, one who struggles with ADHD, one who can't keep their nose out of a book, one who struggles with depression, and one who, worst of all, suffers from not being gay. (I know, right? Horrible.) With a cliché twist, these four end up going camping, for absolutely no good reason at all. As the descend into the woods, more reports show up, explaining there have been sightings of demonic territorial markings on trees, rocks, and houses near people's deaths. A real shame those kids are inside the same forest at the time.

Eight teenagers go to the same camp, with different backgrounds, different friend groups. They lived pretty normal lives, well as they seem normal to them. On a seemingly ordinary school trip, a group of high school students is thrust into a series of inexplicable and eerie events that force them to confront death... The air smelled of gasoline and death. That's what woke me first. Not the searing pain in my side or the impossible heat coming from somewhere behind me. No, it was the smell. And then the memories hit me like the bus hit the tree. And I was rolling down the side of a mountain, surrounded by ten other screaming kids and three panicked adults. All of which had a ninety six percent chance of death. My eyes were open. My emerald eyes, so rare that only two percent of the population had them. And my throat was burning, and my skin was tingling. And all I could think about was the probability that I was dying. Scattered around me I knew were twelve other people with a ninety nine percent chance of already being dead. And I didn't look around to find out. This book touches on physical, mental, and verbal abuse from friends, family, and guardians. As well as sexual assault and harassment (But don't worry, it's fade to black), has extreme depictions of self harm and suicidal thoughts, has scenes and descriptions of a public shooter, eating disorders, and lastly, racism/classism. The list may be long, but it IS the point of the book to touch on all of these topics. I hope you enjoy.

Alone. Naked. Cold. Covered in blood that is just as likely to be mine as someone else's. I don't know who I am, where I am, or what I'm running from. All I get are flashes, snippets of dark shadows, sneering faces. Pain always follows these nightmares, these memories. I was found, taken in, but I have no way of knowing if I only escaped the frying pan just to jump into the fire. I don't understand these people, these wolves. They don't understand me, either. Our words mean nothing to each other, they're no more than sounds. We use gestures, facial expressions, body language like the beasts we seem to be. I can only pray these beasts are not the same ones I'm running from. -This story has depictions of violence, depression, panic attacks, gore. If you go down to the woods today... Well, in this town, you probably won't come back. Unexplained deaths and disappearances are normal around here. In Haltonshaw Grove, we tell these real life horror stories to our kids like bedtime tales. They help us learn from a young age to stay out of the forest after dark. But one halloween, we didn't listen- Me and four boys. We broke the rules and we paid the price. We barely made it out alive and now we live with the trauma, the nightmares, the memories. Seven years later, the events of that night, like most things tend to do around here, have come back to haunt us. We never talked about the night we ran in the forest, never spoke afterwards at all really, but now we're going to need each other if we're going to survive what's coming.
