"Lass, I..." He tries, but then she finally looks up at him. She had such brown eyes. A dark abyss so easily to find oneself lost in. He was victim to them time and time again. 

"Lie to me Fillip. Lie to me if you must." Her eyes were slowly being filled with tears, and he can feel his heart sink. As if it had come to grips with this horror before his mind had.

"Penelope, you will see me again..." He whispers, as his right hand rises to gently cup her left cheek. His thumb gently slides against her skin. She leans into his touch. Cherishing this moment beyond words. "And till then, my love for you shall never fade. Ye can always count on me." He gulps heavily. He can feel those tears finally fall. Wetting the skin he so longed to touch. 

But they both knew. He never could again. This was it. 

"I love you Chibs..." She whispers, and he attempts a smile at the nickname, but the fresh wounds cut that attempt short.
